As we move towards the cooler months, how can we protect ourselves and our family from the effects of coughs, colds and ‘flu?
Fortunately, there are many safe, natural and effective remedies that can help keep us fit and healthy!
- Garlic
Garlic is one of the most effective anti-microbial plants available. It works on bacteria, funguses and viruses.
Eat it in your meals by adding to stir fries, stews or soups. If you don’t like the taste of it, then consider taking a high potency supplement throughout the autumn and winter - Elderflower
Elderflower is an anti viral herb which helps reduce fevers, boost the immune system and fight colds and flu.
Don’t use a sugar-laden cordial, instead use the dried herb in herbal teas for a delicious warming drink. Add a spoonful of honey to soothe the throat. - Diet
Use food as your medicine and ditch the highly processed foods, sugar and caffeine.
Include lots of vitamin C rich foods to boost your immune system such as berries, citrus fruitsw, dark leafy green vegetables, peppers and potatoes. - Anti bacterial
The Government are advising us to wash our hands with antibacterial soaps and sanitisers. Unfortunately, triclosan, one of the most commonly used anti bacterial agents comes with its own set of problems.
Make your own safe and effective sanitiser by mixing 100mls of vodka with 10 mls of tea tree oil and 25 mls of water. Tea tree is natural and a very powerful antiseptic.
You can also spray this mix onto door handles, eating surfaces, toilet handles or anywhere elase you are concerned about. - Echinacea
Echinacea is one of the primary remedies for helping the body clear up infections.
It is both anti bacterial and anti viral and needs time to get into your system, so start taking it now to build up your reserves ready for the autumn.
